How Well Can You Tell ! Few Tips in improving your Public Speaking Skills

"Wiston Churchill was honoured as the genius who won the second world war for England, but the thing he feared most, as he claimed, was speaking in Public" notes Dale carnegie , one of the most successful teacher in public speaking. Many readers have asked me how do I manage to speak in public. I am sharing my own experience that can be helpful to those who wish to train themselves or their children in public speaking with the condition that you people pray for me.

Speaking is an art which was discontinued in school life itself. Our education focused more on completing note books and listening to teachers than on speaking onour own. In the begining we had loud reading and story telling as a part of syllabus. Later, many schools discard verbal exams after certain standards. so now one has to brush up his speaking skills when he realises that he has discontinued an important talent.Inshallah,in this article I will present a few tips on how to dress up your voice through proper modulation and flow of speech, without going through the burden of heavy coaching material.

Narrate a familiar story: In schools we used to tell stories like "The hare and the tortoise" and "The fox and the grapes". How about telling them again? My Islamic public speaking began with a collection of few children from near by slums. The children came every evening after Iftar and learnt Islam from stories of prophets from the Qur'an and Hadith that I narrated to them. I also learnt important lessons in holding the attention of audience for a long time which you may never learn from books on public speaking. Collect a few children as your audience and narrate these simple stories.Children are a good and the friendliest audience for people who suffer from stage fright.Use your voice to express various emotions like anger, authority, arrogance, humility, like, dislike, joy sorrow, etc. You can narrate a story from your life too.

Share an incident on the dining table : Share an interesting incident from your office or comment on a news item with your family using the style you adopted while telling stories to the kids.

Choose a pal who too is looking for a trainer (Ofcourse it should not be a Non Mahram):He may be your spouse or your office pal. Choose a topic from current events and ask him to give his views, beginning with a question. Try to disagree with his views and counter argue with him. This will help you in gathering good thoughts quickly, while speaking. Then let him choose a current event and ask you questions. Be careful of getting into disputes.

Grab up opportunities when available: It may be an announcement in your child's school or his sports day, an celebration in your office or an occassion of some one's death in your friend circle of family. Speak as per the situation and use appropriate emotions.

Observe good speakers and note down their style of speaking and learnt to analyse them . Shaikh Ahmed Deedat can be a best case study on the art of public speaking.

Keep brushing up your skills : Dont keep you skills like unused cars in garages. It will loose its sharpness. Rather keep improving your speaking skills and updating your knowledge too.Inshallah This is how you can merge your thinking proccess with your speaking style, and groom into a good speaker gradually.

Dont Forget to ask Allah's help: If Allah helps you no one can over power you and If he forsakes you, then who is ther to help you, so in Allah let the believers put their trust. Surah al e Imran, ch 3 verse 160
